The poverty ratio for the whole country as a whole stands at 36% in 1993-94. The human poverty index for India is 0.367 while its rank on this score is 47th. The Gini Coefficient, which is the most popular measure of inequality for India, stands at 0.319 in 1994. The urban population comprised of 27% of the total population in India in 1994. The average annual rate of growth of urban population for the period 1994-2000 is estimated 3%. The infant mortality rate was 72 per thousand in 1996. The daily calorie supply per capital is 2.395. The gender-related Development index (GDI) rank for India is 118th and the DGI value is 0392. The female life expectancy at birth for female is 61.4 years, which is slightly higher than that for the males (61.1 years). The gross enrolment rates for girls in 1996-97 were 47% while that for boys is 63%. The literacy rate for female was 36.1% while that for males was 64.5%. The earned income share of female is 25.7%.
The share of women in adult labour force was 31% in 1990. The Gender Empowerment Measure (GEM) rank for India is 86th while the GEM value is 0.228. The sex ration for India is 94 females for every 100 males and 15.36% of female population is below the age of 6 years. Female literacy rate is 54.76 against the national average of 65.38.
The Need
Education is one of the most essential needs of human life. It plays vital role in shaping the life of an individual to go coup up the multifaceted society. It broadens our horizon and gives us better understanding of the world around us and how things work. It reduces social and economical disparity, allows progress to the equally share and is a source of livelihood moreover this has been a dream for the slum dwellers as they are with many short comings and challenges for survival. Lack of this impact the community, area and the district as a hole in the making agents of criminals, looters, thieves and anti social elements not only that lack of the education among slums dwellers also deprive them of many human rights.
Therefore in order to built a conducive society for living a harmonious life with sharing and caring attitude and personal growth imparting education among the slums dwellers is very important.
Yah Educational Trust, as per its objective to impact education to the under privilege putting a small efforts in the slums of the New Delhi to nurture and educate people living below the poverty line, through it various projects.
